Shout for joy, you heavens; rejoice, you earth; burst into song, you mountains! For the LORD comforts his people and will have compassion on his afflicted ones. Isaiah 49:13
A new tradition this year, when I’m finally ready to turn on the television, is to find a Yule log stream. The one I found at the beginning of the season features the usual decorated room with a burning fireplace, Christmas music in the background, and segments of a pig, bunnies, puppies, and kittens amid Christmas trees, packages, hay, and assorted decorations.
I laugh every time. Even though I’ve seen it several times, I enjoy the cats attacking each other in play, the puppies stealing from each other, the bunnies hopping out of their bed to explore, and the pig sitting on his bed, looking regal as he watches over the area. Even my cat, when he sees the bunnies, will perk up, jump to his feet, and jump up on the bookcase that holds the television to put his face on the screen for a closer look. I laugh every time. And I sing along with the carols, glad the neighbor insists she never hears me.
The simple joy in the season reminds me of how blessed I am. Despite the challenges we all face, life sometimes taking a direction I never planned, I know I am blessed in God’s Hope, Peace, and Joy. I have, and I know I always will have His comfort and His compassion.
