As part of the plan to focus on the Christ in Christmas, I’ll be sharing Christmas songs that, like the early hymns or carols, were written to worship Jesus.
I love both traditional Christmas songs and more modern secular Christmas songs. But those that tell the story of Christmas are the ones I plan to listen to as worship, and as a way to think about the coming of Christ in a fresh way.
I am starting with a song written by Mark Lowry and put to music by Buddy Greene. It is not new, having been written thirty-two years ago, but it is considered part of the modern Christian music designation.
When I first heard it, the concept of asking Mary questions about Jesus fascinated, and touched me. As you listen to the lyric writer sing his own words, let the song take you to a place where the mother of Jesus had so many hard realities to face and did so with grace, courage, and with love.
