I am still working through 1 John Chapter 4, but in keeping with the focus on love, I am also moving to other key verses in the Bible today as I reflect on a powerful demonstration of love.
Romans 5:8 tells us, “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
Powerful. A key part of God’s love is demonstrating that love. And what a magnificent way to demonstrate – to sacrifice yourself for others. Although many of us will never be asked to die to demonstrate our love, as believers, aren’t we expected, and don’t we find joy in sacrificing ourselves by putting others first. By meeting their needs, both emotionally and physically, as God leads us?
How will people know if we don’t show them? Teach them? Love them?
Our perfect example of demonstrating is in the personage of Jesus Christ.
Romans 5:6-11 (ESV) For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.
Rejoice, my friends, and demonstrate the love God has given you.
