As soon as I started considering doing some posts on memorizing scripture, my social media pages were full of scripture memorization studies people were currently doing.
Sometimes it seems like good ideas crop up like that, and I have to think the Holy Spirit is reminding people of the importance of words. His words. I was planning on sharing a daily plan for memorizing according to the whole message, not just verse by verse. A former pastor taught us how to do that, and it not only takes on greater meaning but helps the grey cells capture and hold.
But when I sat down to finalize and put the idea in order to share, I was stuck. This wasn’t what God wanted of me. It’s what I had decided, in my great wisdom (ha) I needed to share. There are many ways to memorize scripture. God brings those scriptures to mind when we need them. However, each study has to be centered on your individual learning patterns. Your experiences. Important words, yes. But so much more than that. God breathed words.
Because music seems to reach and stick with me, I will share something that came my way unexpectantly after watching a favorite teaching pastor on my streaming service. After the service ended, I got up to take care of something, and came back to beautiful instrumental music and God’s Word displayed on a variety of backgrounds. The verse stays up quite some time, but it does change, as does the background. If you are a visual person like me, seeing those words on a beautiful background make memorizing even easier.
There are many of these sights available, so I don’t want to seem to just promote one. But if music ministers to you, this is a great way to spend a few hours of continuous music and Bible verses as you relax or work around the house. They stick. At least they do with me. Great reminders, a great way to learn or relearn scripture.
